Social Emotional Art Project : Create A Pumpkin Patch
It's pumpkin time! Whether you're a teacher looking for festive a art project idea that will boost social emotional learning, or a parent looking for a no-set-up pumpkin craft for your kids-- this project hits the spot!
The social emotional pumpkins art project is a fun, easy way to get your kids thinking about what emotions look and feel like as they get to be the creators of their very own lively pumpkin patch!
Social Emotional Art Project Steps
STEP 1
Take a piece of blank paper and 1 marker. I chose green to stay on the "pumpkin patch" theme, but it could be any color. Start at one edge of the paper and draw a continuous line that includes 3-5 loops. Don't do more loops than this, as the paper will get crowded. End your line at another edge of the paper.
STEP 2
Use an orange crayon to color in the loops that you made. these are your "pumpkins" in the patch (do pumpkins haaaaave to be orange?... you decide!).
STEP 3
Using a darker crayon, create pumpkin faces that each display a different emotion. If using in the classroom, you can begin this project by discussing as a group examples of emotions, what those emotions look like, and what they feel like. This can be used as inspiration as the kids create emotional faces for their pumpkins.
STEP 4
Use another color marker to add other pumpkin details such as stems, vines, and leaves. For my example, I tried to think about how each pumpkins' vine could also represent the emotion. Kids could label their pumpkins with the emotions, as well!
STEP 5
Make a story! Let the kids name each pumpkin. Then, let each child create 1 event that happened in the pumpkin patch, and why each of the pumpkins reacted the way they they did.
